A beautiful drive

If you ever want to take a drive that captures the essence of Montana, this is it.  We left Deer Lodge and headed west on I90. At Garrison we headed east on US12. I know, right? It sounds like backtracking, but we only went a few miles and then headed north on MT141. From there we went west again on MT200 to US83, which took us north again to the north end of Flathead Lake. A short jaunt to the west on US82 took us to US93 and thence north to Kalispell.

We are tucked in under the pine trees at the Rocky Mountain HI Campground. This is a beautiful place out of the hustle and bustle, but very near town. From here we can visit Glacier National Park and Flathead lake. We will get started on that tomorrow.  For now we are warming up inside with the heater on. It was about 45 degrees for most of the trip, and we had rain showers most of the way.

Jill, my on-the-road photographer, got some pretty nice pictures of some of the many lakes along the route.  They are made the more amazing by the facts that she was shooting 1) from a moving car, and 2) through rain covered windows. Way to go honey!

We have pretty good wi-fi here, so I expect to be able to post some amazing pictures from Glacier National Park tomorrow. C'mon back.
